  John Clark Stevenson left a will made in 1858 leaving everything to his housekeeper, Mary Ann Harrison. There was a court case, Tolland, [Mary Anne Harrison's married name,] against Stevenson and Kelly. This was JCS's second wife, Mary Ann Stevenson and James Edmund Kelly and wife, Charlotte. It appears that Mary Ann Tolland won the case and inherited all JCS's goods. Mary Ann Harrison married William Tolland, an Irishman from Donegal, in Bath in 1865. He became a publican in Brixton, probably with the proceeds of his win in the court case. Mary Ann had many children and died in 1877 aged 39. She was 19 when John Clark Stevenson made his will in her favour and 25 when she went to court. JC Stevenson was a clerk in a solicitor's office on his death certificate but described himself as a gentleman when he made his will in 1858. Mary Ann had two children by John Clark Stevenson. They both changed their name to Tolland.
