  	There seems to be some confusion over this William Dearnley's origins. On the death etry for daughter Elizabeth, William Darnley is described as 'labourer'. This is also on the birth record for his son William. However, William jnr states on his marriage certificate that he is a gentleman and the son of a gentleman. It would seem impossible to make such a leap in one generation.

  1851 census Boston Spa records show: At number 53 north side of the main street lived: William Dearnley 48 Landed proprietor born Doncaster Hannah his wife 51 wife born Morley Maria Dearnley 23 daughter at home born Leeds Memorial inscription at Queen Street Methodist Chapel, Morley, Leeds reads: "Sacred to the memory of William DEARNLEY, son of William and Hannah DEARNLEY of Leeds who died July 29th 1846 aged 16 years. Also Hannah, the beloved wife of William DEARNLEY and mother of the above of Boston Spa, late of Leeds, who died September 23rd 1852 aged 57 years. Also William DEARNLEY husband of the above-named Hannah DEARNLEY of Boston Spa, who died July 26th 1854 aged 52 years." When William Dearnley purchased land in Morley for his daughter Maria he is described on the documents as 'joiner and cabinet maker'. On other documents he is described as 'gentleman'. On his christening document he is descrived as the 'son of a gentleman'.
