  Harold Ernest SIMMONDS was born in Levuka, Fiji. His father Joseph Henry SIMMONDS was a missionary in Fiji for three years. Harold was a clever musician and he was the organist in the Methodist Church in Queen Street, Auckland. He married Mary SPRAGG on 13 June 1901 and they had three children, Harold Neal, Geoffrey Wainhouse and Mary Hill. After Mary divorced Harold on 31 May 1929, he married his secretary Louisa Mary Blockley Jaquet TURNER. He appears to have been unhappy in both marriages.
